The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Taiwan-OSHA) of the Ministry of Labor and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) co-hosted the 3rd EU-Taiwan Occupational Safety and Health Cooperation Meeting via video conference on April 26, 2024. The meeting was opened by Minister Ming-Chun HSU of the Ministry of Labor and Ambassador Roy Chun LEE of the Taipei Representative Office in the European Union and Belgium. The meeting was led by William COCKBURN, Executive Director of EU-OSHA, and Tzu-Lien TZOU, Director-General of Taiwan-OSHA, with participation from their teams. The conference also invited representatives from the Institute of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health, Ministry of Labor, the Center for Occupational Accident Prevention and Rehabilitation, and the Safety and Health Technology Center. Mutual discussions focused on “The Burden of Mental Health Disease in Healthcare Workers as a Result of Covid” and “Occupational Safety Health Information System and OSH Barometer” by sharing strategies and outcomes to advance these critical topics.
To continuously build a safe and sustainable workplace, Senior Specialist Pei-Chieh YEH and Associate Technical Specialist Chih-Heng CHIEN from Taiwan-OSHA respectively shared Taiwan’s experiences on “Strategies and Related Measures to Protect Worker’s Mental Health” and “The Establishment of Occupational Safety and Health common data Classification and Integration management System: Insights and Experiences”. They engaged in in-depth discussions on workplace mental health hazards and occupational safety and health risk management, aiming to strengthen hazard prevention and develop more comprehensive occupational safety and health policies. Director-General TZOU also expressed special thanks to EU-OSHA for its ongoing support. He mentioned that “EU strategic framework on health and safety at work 2021-2027” which outlines key priorities and actions to improve worker health and safety, has significantly guided Taiwan's planning for its 2030 workplace safety and health strategy, thereby greatly benefiting the development of safety and health.
Taiwan-OSHA stated that EU’s occupational safety and health policies are globally leading, with EU-OSHA playing a crucial role in driving the development of occupational safety and health within the EU. The meeting was another successful exchange event, with both sides sharing their perspectives. By leveraging this platform for exchange, Taiwan aims to draw on valuable experiences from the EU as references for future policy planning and implementation. Looking forward to the 4th EU-Taiwan bilateral meeting, which we hope to conduct through on-site visits for face-to-face interactions, thereby establishing a close and stable cooperative relationship.
