Smart Production Safety Forum 2023

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the Ministry of Labor (MOL) held the "Smart Production Safety Forum 2023" at the Taipei Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel on the afternoon of October 26, inviting guests from the Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Chinese National Federation of Industries, the Chinese Federation of Labour, related industry representatives and certification bodies, and etc. to jointly exchange practical experience in smart production safety in which to strengthen workplace safety and assist enterprises in sustainable operations. This Forum also discussed the strategies to achieve the mission of President Tsai’s instruction on “continue to strengthen labor safety and welfare, and maintain the manpower and flexibility needed by the industry during economic transformation.”

Minister Hsu Ming-chun of MOL said that Taiwan's economy and industry have entered the "Industry 4.0" technological era and the production model of smart machinery. The types, extent and scope of hazards derived from the workplace are significantly different from the traditional production model. In order to help the industries adapt to the new regarding various types of workplace safety issues, Since 2019, the Ministry of Labor has strengthened industrial smart production safety through three major aspects, such as building a professional service network for risk assessment required by emerging industry types, expanding source management and border control of machinery and equipment, and promoting systematic industrial safety supervision capabilities. and management mechanisms, etc., it has so far assisted approximately 70,000 enterprises and taken care of approximately 1.63 million workers.

The OSHA stated that this forum compiled the counseling results of seven types of industries with high occupational accidents risks, including metal products, electronic components, machinery and equipment, food, plastic products, basic metals and electrical equipment. Experience exchanges were held on topics such as "Production capacity and occupational safety create a win-win situation", "The secret of successful industrial transformation" and "The way to sustainable industrial management" to assist industries in introducing risk assessment, promote industrial intrinsic safety and improve production safety, thereby reducing occupational accidents, labor cost losses and economic losses. In addition, in view of the fact that ESG and net-zero carbon emissions are important issues for the development of modern enterprises, the value of human-centered and dignified labor is a key to corporate governance that cannot be ignored. At the end of this forum, Director General of the OSHA, Dr. Tzou,Tzu-Lien, chaired the "Seminar on future prospects and trends of fair transformation of smart and safe production", and invited representatives from industry, government and academia, including Tzou Yuxin, deputy director of the Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Dr. Camus Su, chairman of the TOUCHE solutions company, and Mr. Lai Yong-xiang, CEO of the Metal Industries Research & Development  Centre (MIRDC), to discuss and exchange across domains from different perspectives, and jointly pursue zero accidents in the industry and the development vision of sustainable management.
