Minister Ming-Chun Hsu of the Ministry of Labor led the Occupational Safety Administration along with Vice Minister Tseng Wensheng of the Ministry of Economic Affairs conducted joint audits on “the first phase of offshore wind power generation project-the new construction project of offshore wind farm” today (15th). They inspected the implementation of on-site safety and health facilities, put forward the deficiencies to be improved, and requested the organizer Taiwan Power Company to strictly supervise the construction manufacturer to strengthen safety management.
Minister Ming-Chun Hsu said that green energy is an important national policy. According to the “4-year wind power generation promotion project” planned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, offshore wind power will be the focus of future power supply development, and the country should also take care of workers’ safety and health while working on the development of the green energy industry. The “offshore wind power generation project-the new construction project of the offshore wind farm " supervised today is one of the most critical projects for the development of green energy technology in Taiwan. Based on the foreign construction experience, common risks during the construction period include falling, objects dropping, collapsing, electrical injury, being hit, and drowning. In order to urge business units to implement industrial safety management, the Ministry of Labor has established a state-owned inter-departmental platform. It is expected to ensure the safety and health of workers during works through inter-departmental joint audits.
Minister Ming-Chun Hsu actively inquired about the working conditions of workers and their opinions on the spot and emphasized that offshore wind power projects involve environmental factors such as climate, tides, underwater and overwater factors, which result in high risks of the operation. The construction team should implement comprehensive risk assessment and management in the planning, construction, and maintenance stage, to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for workers. By doing so, the national green energy policy will be carried out safely and smoothly.
