Promoting the competition of Construction Safety Awards, excellent civil construction projects are included for the first time

  • Last Modify Date:2020-06-19

The competition of the 14th Excellent Construction Safety Awards officially started. The registration period is from May 1, 2020 to May 25, 2020. Construction teams pursuing excellence are welcome to apply for the competition. In the past, only public construction projects were allowed to apply for the competition; this year (2020), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor will allow civil construction projects to apply for the first time, with the hope that the government and civil construction projects can jointly take part, striving for the highest honors of pushing excellent construction with occupational safety and health, so as to enhance the culture of overall construction safety. In addition, in response to the COVID-19 (Wuhan pneumonia) epidemic, the number of judges will be limited during the judging process, and prevention measures will also be taken, such as measuring body temperature, wearing masks, and keeping a certain distance indoors, so as to protect the health and safety of the judges and participants.

The OSHA stated that the competition maintains the previous mechanism of participation for public construction projects, continuing the spirit of loving the earth and emphasizing environmental protection by adopting paperless operation measures such as online registration, online announcement of the schedule, and access to download winning cases, so as to reduce the waste and burden of the amount of paper that would otherwise be used by the participating units. In particular, the feature of this year's competition also includes the wider participation qualification for Excellent Construction Safety Awards. Large-scale civil construction projects with construction progress of more than 80% will be qualified for the first time, encouraging to strive for honors of pushing civil construction with excellent occupational safety and health, so as to be a model for civil construction observation and a benchmark for public construction. In addition, the number of the award-winning staff will also be increased this year, and award-winning excellent staff will be given a substantial reward of NT $ 5,000 equivalent prizes. The authorities will also urge the affiliates of award-winning staff to give merit as well.

Director Tzu-Lien Tsou said that the Ministry of Labor has implemented a three-year “National Workplace Disaster Prevention Strategy (referred to as 330 Disaster Prevention Strategy)” since 2018. Through multiple strategies such as “reinforcing supervision and inspection,” “counseling and self-improvement,” and “expanding promotional marketing,” the MOL aims to achieve its ultimate goal this year, which is to reduce the Occupational Injury Incidence Rate under Labor Insurance by 30%. As part of the goal, the construction engineering disaster prevention task is especially difficult. As a result, the MOL calls on the construction industry to push for disaster prevention through the competition of excellent construction projects, so as to promote the culture of construction safety, enhance the hygiene management standards of construction engineering, and ensure the safety and health of construction workers.
