On September 4th, 2024, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Ministry of Labor (Taiwan-OSHA) hosted the “2024 International Labor Inspection Conference” in Taiwan. Taiwan-OSHA invited experts from the International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI), including representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor, the UK Health and Safety Executive, the Spanish Sindicato de Inspectores de Trabajo y Seguridad Social, and the Ministry of Labor of Thailand. The event featured a three-day agenda, including labor inspection exchange meetings, site visits, and a tour of training facility at Southern Taiwan Science Park, aimed at inspiring new ideas and driving progress and innovation in OSH inspections.

Deputy Minister of Labor, An-Pang Wang, emphasized in his speech that labor inspections are vital for enforcing labor regulations, ensuring safe and healthy workplaces, promoting social justice, and supporting economic stability. The Ministry of Labor continues upholding the spirit of international cooperation, actively engaging with countries and international organizations to learn from the practical experiences of advanced nations, and thus enhancing Taiwan's labor inspection policies and effectiveness.

Director General Tzu-Lien Tzou of Taiwan-OSHA highlighted that signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IALI in April of this year marked a significant milestone in Taiwan's labor inspection history. This agreement symbolizes Taiwan's active alignment with international standards and its commitments of enhancing labor inspection quality through global collaboration, supporting inspection agencies effectively tackle new challenges and risks in rapidly changing work environments

Labor inspections are crucial for every worker’s safety, especially in high-risk sectors such as construction, protecting vulnerable groups like migrant workers, and addressing emerging issues in the gig economy. Effective collaboration between sectors and government is the key to applying knowledge in real work environments, ensuring compliance with OSH regulations, protecting workers' rights, and creating safer workplaces for every worker.
