In order to actively cooperate with international occupational safety and health (OSH) organisations, the delegation of Taiwanese Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Taiwan-OSHA), the Ministry of Labour, led by the chief secretary, Yu-Tang LIN, visited Europe from 17th to 25th September, 2022. They called on the government organisations; in addition, the Solvay Chemical Company in Belgium, the Viuda de Sainz Construction Company in Spain, and the Spanish Construction Industry Association. The achievements were fruitful.
The trip to Europe was intensive, in total three countries they visited: Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain. They exchanged views on international trends in OSH with the team led by Tom Bevers (Chair of the European Labour Authority), the team led by Charlotte Grevfors Ernoult (Head of the OSH Unit, Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion), and the team led by William Cockburn (Executive Director of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work). They also had a dialogue with Marco Boly (Director of the Inspection of Labour and Mines) and Elena Pérez Barredo (Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security) to discuss labour inspection strategies, labour inspector training and retention, and other practice. They hope to enrich the professional knowledge of accident prevention in our country's workplaces by exchanging international practice and experience.
Taiwan-OSHA stated that in the past two years, many international exchanges and meetings have been held online due to the impact of the pandemic. It is valuable to draw oversea experience and to expand international cooperation through this physical visit, which will be of great benefit to our future OSH policy planning and promotion. At the same time, it can also encourage international organisations to visit Taiwan for cooperation and exchange, and extensively combine the resources of all parties, thus, to boost the development of OSH in Taiwan and bring it in line with international standards.
