The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Taiwan-OSHA) of the Ministry of Labor and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) held the 2nd Occupational Safety and Health Cooperation Meeting on 3 May 2022. Ambassador Ming-Yen TSAI of the Taipei Representative Office in the European Union and Belgium opened the virtual conference by delivering his opening remarks, followed by speeches by EU-OSHA Interim Executive Director William COCKBURN and Taiwan-OSHA Director-General Tzu-Lien TZOU. And staff from the Institute of Labor and Occupational Safety and Health of the Ministry of Labor were invited to attend. Both agency heads then lead their staff in engaging in in-depth discussions on the two main topics of Risk Management of Carcinogens in the Workplace, and Safety Management for Industry 4.0.
During the meeting, Director-General TZOU recognizes the value of this bilateral partnership in bettering Taiwanese occupational safety and health policies, and with that, he thanks the EU-OSHA for its support and friendship. On behalf of Taiwan-OSHA, Senior Specialist Pei-Chieh YEH and Section Chief Chih-Hung HSIEH gave presentations on how Taiwanese occupational safety and health sectors are aligning itself with global SDG trends in response to the 2030 Agenda. They respectively gave talks on Taiwanese experience, including “Risk Management of Exposure to Chemical Carcinogens in the Workplace in Taiwan” and “Taiwanese Safety Management of Digital Machinery and Work equipment for Industry 4.0.” Both parties exchanged viewpoints and shared practical experiences in implementing various measures. The shared goal is to strengthen the prevention of occupational health hazards and develop more comprehensive OSH policies.
As EU-OSHA plays a globally leading role in OSH policies, Taiwan-OSHA attaches great significance to this exchange platform, where both parties can share practical experiences and advanced research. Many of these lessons learned become valuable input for policy makers and practitioners in Taiwan. Both parties also discussed items for future cooperation, including possible face-to-face meetings in the second half of the year once the pandemic subsides, that will further strengthen and make more meaningful this bilateral partnership.
