By encouraging enterprises to promote the sustainability of occupational health and safety in the workplace, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) promotes the implementation of the UN 2030 sustainable development goals (SDGs).

For enterprises’ reference purposes earlier, OSHA tabled the trial version of the " Practice Recommendation Guide for disclosure using GRI 403 Standard: Occupational Health and Safety" for all industries.

OSHA hosted the Round Table Symposium for workplace sustainability on October 28, 2021, inviting a number of leading business representatives to share the concept of engaging occupational health and safety performance with enterprises’ practical ESG reporting operations.  

The consensuses reached in this Symposium are as follows.

1. Advancing leading indicators: In addition to the traditional passive lagging indicators, industries should be encouraged to extend the performance of preventive actions to improve the sustainable development of occupational health and safety.

2. Value-chain cooperation: A sound management of the supply chain and contractors deserves greater attentions.  Large enterprises are expected to play the key role in assisting their partners, small and medium enterprise, in practicing OSH improvement and achieving quantitative leading indicator goals.  

3. International standard benchmarking: To promote the sustainable development of occupational health and safety and to create a more friendly and perfect workplace, OSHA promote and encourage industry players to expand the use of GRI 403 international standards in the Corporate Social Responsibility report by using multiple appraisal, award, advocacy, guidance, and development of self-evaluation reference benchmarks.
